Arkansas Spider Control

About Arkansas Spiders: There are a few spider types that can be found through out the state of Arkansas. The most common spiders are the Dark Fishing Spider, Trapdoor Spider, Arkansas Chocolate Tarantula, the Brown Recluse Spider and the Black Widow.

The Dark Fishing Spider can be quite a surprise if found in your Arkansas home. The large female has a body that reaches 1" long. When you stretch its legs, the spider can reach measurements of up to 3" long. These spiders tend to be in corners and cracks during the day and at night they come out to hunt prey.

The Trapdoor Spider lives in silk-lined underground burrows. The trapdoors are about one inch in diameter, and they are constructed of silk camouflaged with soil and plant debris.

The Arkansas Chocolate Tarantula occur throughout most of the state but is presumed to be Arkansas' only tarantula species. They plug their burrows for the winter months and emerge in spring. They may hunt at night, but apparently they prefer to remain in their burrows waiting for prey to come by.

The Brown Recluse Spider in Arkansas is at the center of the speciesí natural distribution, and this spider is common in both urban and rural settings. Indoors, these spiders are often found in boxes, among papers, in folds of clothing, and in bedrooms, bathrooms, cellars, and attics. They tend to prefer dry locations that remain undisturbed, such as closets, attics, and garages. Outdoors, the spiders are found under rocks, logs, or loose bark in relatively dry areas, such as under rock ledges. Recluse spiders are not aggressive and bite only when forced into intimate contact with human skin. Bites often occur when spiders are trapped in clothing or bedding.

The last common spider found in Arkansas is the Black Widow Spider. Black widows can be found throughout Arkansas. Black widows build irregular webs of coarse silk, usually near the ground in dark places, and usually outdoors. They are also found under rocks or logs, in piles of rubble, in mammal burrows, and in dark corners of sheds, garages, crawl spaces, cellars, and basements.
