Indiana Spiders: There are three most common spiders
in Indiana and they are the Marble Spider,
Brown Recluse Spider, and Black
are also known as the Orb
Weave Spiders. They are the builders of spiral
wheel-shaped webs often found in gardens, fields
and forests. Their common name is taken from the
round shape of this typical web.
Brown Recluse Spiders
can be seen through out Indiana.
Indoors, these spiders are often found in boxes,
among papers, in folds of clothing, and in
bedrooms, bathrooms, cellars, and attics. They
tend to prefer dry locations that remain
undisturbed, such as closets, attics, and
garages. Outdoors, the spiders are found under
rocks, logs, or loose bark in relatively dry
areas, such as under rock ledges. Recluse
spiders are not aggressive and bite only when
forced into intimate contact with human skin.
Bites often occur when spiders are trapped in
clothing or bedding.
Black Widow Spiders
have a venomous bite that can be very painful or
life threatening. They have are black with a red
to orange mark on their abdomen, usually in the
shape of an hourglass. Their webs are
usually found in dark, undisturbed places.
